ELIS Innovation Hub

ELIS Innovation Hub

The ELIS Innovation Hub operates at the intersection of technology, innovation, and collaboration. Providing a platform for the development of impactful solutions to address societal challenges, such as physical inactivity. The hub is more than a collaborative space, the hub is a dynamic Q-helix innovation and business support ecosystem where ideas are systematically nurtured, tested, and transformed into practical applications that improve lives.

About the Hub

The ELIS Innovation Hub focuses on three key areas: @Work, @Public Space, @Sport and cross overs to other areas. It operates from the High-Tech Brainport region in South Netherlands. The ELIS Innovation Hub has evaluated from the Q-helix innovation cluster, Cluster Sports & Technology that has developed an excellent track record in innovation and business creation since its start in 2005.

@Work: Shaping the future of the workplace

The @Work initiative involves collaboration with leading organizations such as Fontys, imec, TNO, and TU/e. A central component of this initiative is the Workplace Vitality Hub, a living lab where companies can test and validate vitality concepts and technologies in real-world work environments. These innovations are evaluated with actual users, ensuring their practical application in enhancing workplace health and productivity.

@Public Space: Redesigning for health and well-being

The @Public Space initiative focuses on transforming public areas to encourage physical activity and engagement. By working with public space stakeholders, including municipalities and designers, the program fosters the creation of spaces that promote well-being. Innovations are grounded in studies of movement needs, user testing, and market research, ensuring they are sustainable and effective in promoting healthier lifestyles.

@Sport: Enhancing athletic performance and sport participation

The @Sport initiative aims to improve athletic performance and foster broader participation in sports. By integrating knowledge from areas such as human factors, gamification, smart sensors, and data technologies, the program seeks to enhance both elite athletic performance and general sports engagement.

The ELIS Innovation Cycle: Driving continuous improvement

At the core of the hub’s approach is the ELIS Innovation Cycle, a process that ensures continuous development, validation, and market acceleration of innovations. This cycle starts with identifying societal or market needs, followed using data, AI, and smart technology to create innovative solutions. Once validated, these innovations are introduced into the market for real-world impact. The process is iterative, with each cycle informed by data and lessons from the previous one. By focusing on user-centered design and measurable outcomes, the cycle ensures that innovations meet the needs of end users.

The Pitch Stop Event

The Pitch Stop Event is a critical part of the hub’s business support offerings. It allows companies to assess and refine their business cases, helping SMEs and startups accelerate their innovations. This event has proven successful across 10 countries in Europe, enhancing the quality of innovation business cases and preparing companies for future growth.

As the ELIS Innovation Hub continues to expand, it remains dedicated to its mission of innovating, validating, and accelerating technologies that will shape the future of work, public spaces, and sports.

Business support

The ELIS Innovation Hub and its ELIS innovation cycle support not only the innovation process but also the business support to companies. It employs specific support actions on this next to the fact that it links to existing business support programs in its network.
