Through the I3-INSHAPE project, Eurofitness is now exploring how technology can enhance rehabilitation and home fitness, paving the way for smarter, more personalized health solutions. This time, we spoke with Oriol Castillo, Delta Manager at Eurofitness
Oriol, can you introduce us to Eurofitness?
EUROFITNESS is a fitness company that operates in Catalonia under the Barcelona Model — a management approach where public sports facilities are run privately under agreements defined by local municipalities. These facilities offer a wide spectrum of activities: from swimming pools and athletics tracks to guided classes, paddle tennis, climbing walls, personal training, and physiotherapy. Our mission is to serve all kinds of people — kids, seniors, individuals with functional diversity, and even social refugees. Today, we operate in 20 sports facilities across Catalonia, creating spaces where everyone can find their place.
What kind of solutions or services does Eurofitness offer? How do you stand out in the market?
Our main goal is simple yet powerful: to improve lives through the healthy habit of physical activity. We stand out by offering a wide range of services and large fitness areas where people can choose what suits them best. Beyond variety, we focus on personalization and attention to detail, making our facilities feel like a second home for our members.
What type of solution are you and your SME partner developing together in the framework of the I3-INSHAPE project? How is collaboration structured?
We are implementing a technology designed to support the rehabilitation process for people treated by our physiotherapists. At the same time, we are exploring how this technology could improve home fitness experiences and help new customers during their first steps in our sports facilities.
Our partner BLAUTIC provides the technology, and we test it directly in the field with our customers and physiotherapists, ensuring that innovation meets real-world needs.
What tangible impact does the I3-INSHAPE project have on your project idea, from the development to market access?
The I3-INSHAPE project helped us connect with BLAUTIC and create a synergy that might not have happened otherwise. It also gave us valuable insights into the market and new ideas for implementing this technology. For us, the biggest benefit has been knowledge and networking, since we already have the infrastructure and resources to move forward. That said, the program also allowed us to hire people to conduct the tests, which was a significant advantage.
Why do you think initiatives like I3-INSHAPE and its innovation hubs are essential for the future of sport and vitality in Europe?
It is massively crucial to have access to programs like INSHAPE because development is key to increasing the relevance of the sports sector. Sustainability and innovation are two words that define today’s world, and initiatives like this ensure we keep moving forward in both areas.
What are your expectations for the future within the I3-INSHAPE project?
We hope the INSHAPE project helps us find ways to reduce our customers’ main pains and make life easier for them and for us. Our goal is to deliver personalized, high-quality services, and we know the project will help us achieve that. Ultimately, this supports our mission: making sure everyone understands that physical activity is crucial for a long, functional life.
What’s one key takeaway you’d like people to remember about INSHAPE?
Symbiosis process. The connections we create between different sectors and ideas — when well merged — can benefit all parties involved, but most importantly, they can drive the development of the sports industry.
